Absolutely ridiculous decision. I've just belatedly 'discovered' the station on my new DAB radio and I haven't tuned into anything else since. Virtually every record played is something I would choose myself, or something that I will seek out and listen to in the future.I then find out the station is to close - typical of my luck! Radio 1 and the rest left me high and dry a long time ago and the 'yoof' of today are more than catered for with a wide range of stations.(While we're on the subject, what the f*** is Radio 1 Xtra??) Surely there's got to be someone out there with a spare wedge who can be the rock saviour of this country ? |

I've just seen that Planet Rock may go. I say come on GCap Media! Get a bit positive about music and be proud to fly the flag of decent music! I just can't stand anymore economically driven formulated pop rubbish! Yours is the only station I can hear such bands as YES, Rush and the like. Surely the music listening public of Great Britain deserve more than the musical decisions of Simon Cowell! Give me strength! |

Having first located Planet Rock via satellite whilst serving abroad in Holland in 2001, I simply cannot imagine what life will be like without it. Whilst out of UK, and one of the few of us who had such a link, the house was always full to capacity with likeminded folk anxious to listen to Planet Rock via satellite. It complemented many partys! Its really the only reason to buy a DAB radio; it was the only reason I purchased one on my return to UK. With no AM/FM signature, in listening to Planet Rock one is truly supporting the DAB case. I feel totally let down. I understand Jazz Channel is to go also. One could be forgiven for feeling a little prejudiced. One need only look at the high profile rock stars and DJs (who in some cases happen to straddle both camps!) that Planet Rock attracts to gauge its credibility and integrity. This offers a fantastic outlet for all of us who actually care about being able to continue listening to great rock music by musicians who could actually play their instruments, hold a tune and endure today. This will be an absolute tragedy if Planet Rock goes to the wall. Where else can we all go. |

Fantastic station..what will I do without you. But wait, surely you have enough high profile and dare i say "wealthy" presenters to buy the station. Sure Rick Wakeman has had a habit in the past of blowing his money on overblown projects and Alice Cooper would probably rather play golf (at least that would keep him off air bless him). Gary moore may be a bit of a purist and want to change the whole schedule to a more blues one, Ray Manzarek would help to balance him out though. There nust be enough wealth under Planet Rock towers to prop it up, or are the financier's right to close it down because it's losing money and classic rock just cant pay it's way any more! Either way I hope someone comes up with the dough so I can continue to enjoy the only radio station I can listen to all day and night without having to touch the dial, unlike any other station I can think of where i would contstanly be on the fiddle to find something half decent. Good luck guys. |

Up until Planet Rock emerged, the only time over the past 20 years I listened to the radio was for the news/traffic. |

What a stupid idea to close Planet Rock. A decision made by 'money men' with no real interest in the product, just what can be made out of it financially. Planet Rock is important to people’s lives - doesn’t that matter?? Let’s hope that the rock stars with all the big money will help out. Good Luck. |

I can't beleive that this station is going to close down! The horror of it! In all of my life I can't believe that such a great station is going to be shut down unless someone buys it. I heard that they are closing it because more people that own cars.. and that is the vast number of people I for one don't own a car. Most people have FM radio's in their cars some cars have DAB but most are dominated by FM radio's. They aparently want to get rid of planet rock to make way for a new jazz station.. im sorry but there is ALREADY A JAZZ STATION! CALLED "THE JAZZ" supprisingly this station broadcasts..guess what.. jazz music! there is already a jazz station and they are going to go and get rid of the only good classic rock station avalible that is decent.. kerrang doesn't play classic rock it plays mainstream modern stuff which is good but not as good as the CLASSIC old skool rock. In our household we have 4 DAB radio's in total. 1 is a portable one. 2 are ones that have little metal arials, and the last one is on a big hi-fi. In our area we can't get "The Arrow" which is a rock station. Wether it plays classic rock I do not know and BBC Radio 6 music that aparently i have heard plays rock is a rubbish station. I have listened to it and have never heard any rock music played on it before. So in my area as you can see I can only get planet rock which is rubbish.. but I don't need another station and if a new one came along it wouldn't be the same as planet rock it wouldn't be as good. Rick Wakeman is a great man and has a brilliant sence of humor. I don't know now he gets away with some of the things he says on-air. Breakfast with Alice cooper.. huumm it's not the greatest part of Planet Rock but it is good, his amazing facts are very good and most of the music he churns out is good apart from him talking about.. "oh when I was on tour with (insert band name here).." its ok..I think that Alice talks a lot about when he met certain bands or when he went certain places, he talks about himself a bit too much but when you meet him he is a great friendly guy (a mate of a mates has met him). We don't want another Jazz station we want to keep our good old Classic Rock the way it is. BBC LEAVE THE DAB STATIONS ALONE! I have tuned into a station by the name of "birdsong".. what in the name of anything is that! I know it is a station dedicated to the sole purpose of people who want to relax and listen to birds singing 24/7....Im sorry but i don't think there are as many listeners for birdsong as there are that tune into Planet Rock.. Oh yeah and if no one has noticed quite often when the deep voice comes on saying "Planet Rock the sony gold award winning station for the UK" something like that... humm gold award winning.. thats a great achievement for a station to have don't you think... also i have heard that it is the top listened to station out of all of the DAB stations... why do you want to take it off the air??? your mad at the BBC you want your heads checking out big time if you ask me! Planet Rock will always be in our hearts if it doesn't get bought by anyone. SAVE PLANET ROCK!!!!! oh and err.. by the way it is closing on the 28th of March! |
